The Pollution Sollution BabyShield is unique in the market, offering your child protection from rain, wind, sunlight, pollution and even viruses.  The Pollution Sollution BabyShield is made in the UK and consists of a Tyvek body – the same material as used in hazmat suits.  Tyvek is very strong yet soft and supple. Better still it is exceedingly lightweight.
The Pollution Sollution BabyShield comes with three Velcro secured central panels which can be changed depending on conditions and need of use. One is made on a soft and supple see-through PVC with a ventilation panel that filters out pollutants. It is this panel that ensures your child can still see outside. The second panel is made of our unique ventilation material which complies with Oeko-Tex Standards. It is this panel that would typically be used on hotter days. The third panel is made of Tyvek along with a ventilation panel. It is this panel that would be used in sunnier conditions where the risk of pollution or viruses is greater. Being white, Tyvek does not absorb heat, unlike black coloured coverings.

Pollution Sollution is a new brand that is devoted to reducing the exposure of babies and children’s respiratory systems to urban environmental pollutants.

How Pollution Sollution protects your baby

We’re all aware of the environmental hazards facing us in our streets. Regular news stories highlight increases in respiratory problems, longer-term breathing disorders such as asthma, and chronic lung and heart conditions attributed to pollution.
Tiny particulate matter (PM), and invisible gases such as nitrogen dioxide emitted by vehicles outside schools and nurseries and anywhere traffic jams occur are inescapable.

For the most defenceless, our babies, whose respiratory systems aren’t fully developed until they reach three years, vulnerability is particularly extreme. Their underdeveloped lungs are far more susceptible to harm and their immediate proximity to vehicle exhaust pipes, closely aligned to the height of typical strollers, doesn’t help.

We tested Pollution Sollution BabyShield all-year covers in UK city-street locations, typical of those travelled to school, nursery, or shopping. In our tests, BabyShield reduced exposure to background nitrogen monoxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and total inhalable dust, (particulates PM10, PM2.5, and PM1). NO2 levels inside the covers were maintained well below environmental health (EH40) exposure limits*. Even when background NO2 levels peaked at three times the EH40 limit*, the covers reduced the levels inside the cover by 81%. Of the inhalable dust, by far the largest proportion was of PM10s, which can cause health impacts ranging from coughing and wheezing to asthma and bronchitis. Measured PM10s inside the cover were almost 24% lower than background levels.

The covers reduced exposure to all inhalable dust particulates by almost 28%.
*EH40 (2018) long-term workplace exposure limits referenced for comparative purposes.

The Pollution Sollution BabyShield fits most different strollers including:

  • and many more!

In tests conducted by a UK-approved testing company, our products reduced exposure to pollution by up to 70%.  Tests have not yet been completed against viruses, but we know for certain viruses cannot penetrate the Tyvek shell and are unlikely to be able to penetrate our ventilation panels as usually a virus’s molecular size is larger than that of pollution molecules.

Sampling was carried out by Envirochem on the 15th and 16th January 2020.

A stroller fitted with the cover and another with no cover fitted were positioned on the side of the road on the pavement in a static position facing towards the road.

Sampling was undertaken outdoors in two locations within the typical city rush-hour traffic period. This provided us with the general background air quality to compare with that within the strollers with the cover fitted.
